Oh, hey! It's been too long since we last caught up!
I realised that I've not posted here for nearly two months. You know what it's like, life gets in the way. I had weeks of revision followed by weeks of exams, followed - much more happily - by weeks of holiday. We had a week in Poland, and two weeks in Montenegro, interspersed by visits to friends and relatives across England. Apart from the horror of the exams, the rest of it has been great, but it didn't leave too much time for blogging and catching up with other people's blogs.
I tried to fit in a few posts around everything else, but it didn't happen. Much as I love blogging, I reeaaallly loved taking a break from it all. I started this blog nearly 10 years ago, not long after I went vegan, as a place to share my vegan discoveries, and prove to myself and anyone else reading that being vegan didn't mean missing out. (Interestingly, Johanna at Green Gourmet Giraffe and Kari at Bite Sized Thoughts have been musing about blogging recently - it must be the time of year for it!)
In the decade that passed, it feels like veganism has exploded. The amount of vegan eateries in London has grown massively, the number of places offering a plant-based option has spiked, vegan labels are now far more common on cosmetics and toiletries. In short, what used to be a dirty word now feels like it's becoming mainstream.
So, with that in mind, I've been thinking about where I should go with the blog. I still love vegan food, and I still want to keep writing about the recipes I've made, places to eat I've been to, festivals I've visited and products I've tried.
But I'd also like to write about more than vegan food. I haven't decided what else that may mean writing about, but if you're still here reading this, then you can expect all the usual vegan goodies, with a few more pieces on various subjects thrown in. Zero waste, simple living, frugality, and organisation are likely to figure in the future.
In an ideal world, I'll hopefully get back to regular posting of whatever kind in the near future, and finding what I enjoy writing about. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to catching up on all the blogs I've been missing on!
I am glad it is holidays and not just hard work that are keeping you from blogging. I have decided to do vegan mofo this year and after that I suspect I will have to slow down. Blogging has changed so much as well as the whole vegan situation. Who would have predicted the vegan friendly world we live in when it seemed quite novel 10 years ago - when I went vegetarian 25 years ago even vegetarian food could be a challenge but it has changed heaps. I will be pleased to see what you are interested in writing - the zero waste posts have been great - and your photo at the head of the post is amazing and tantalising so I hope to hear a bit more about what you have been eating as I always love reading your posts.
ReplyDeleteI am pleased to read you had a good two months free from blogging and enjoying it after all your studying. Like Johanna and Kari I too have been musing about blogging, yes it def. is that time of year and like you I have been blogging for 10 years and its a different world to what it was when we first began. I look forward to your blog posts whatever direction you take. PS You are spot on that veganism has exploded, vegetable based food has never been so good!
ReplyDelete8 years of blogging for me. Amazing we're all still doing it! Although I did take a year long break, haha. Really looking forward to continuing to read and seeing where the new direction takes you.
ReplyDeleteWelcome Back! I, too, took a break and am back! Hope you are well! Looking forward to additional posts! Will you be doing VeganMoFo again this year?
ReplyDeleteLovely to hear from you Joey and to know I'm not the only one benefiting from blogging breaks sometimes, or at least variable posting frequency. I always enjoy your writing on sustainable living, zero waste and related topics so will look forward to whatever direction you take Flicking the Vs in.
ReplyDeleteAlso - over 10 years of blogging is amazing. Congratulations!
